Update Patch for: Maestro 1.9.1 for SGI Workstations
Late in the development of Maestro 1.9.1, an inadvertent change was made to the functioning of the File/Save command in Maestro's View Module. As a result, the File/Save command does not function as documented in the Maestro 1.9.1 User's Guide and Maestro On-line help module. The current functioning of View's File/Save command is described below. Because some users may want the software to function as described in the documentation, we have created a replacement patch that can be installed to restore the intended functionality.

Description of Function
As distributed on the CD-ROM, the function of View's File/Save command is: All part files displayed in the viewport are saved and their previous files are overwritten, regardless of whether a part is selected or not and regardless of any part transformations (translation, rotation or scaling.)

Some users object to this because saving every part file for each File/Save can consume time unnecessarily, and runs the risk of rendering a support file unusable if its associated part file is saved unkowingly.

Therefore, we highly recommend that you update your Maestro 1.9.1 installation by replacing the View executable module to restore it to the intended functionality, which is: The File/Save command only saves and overwrites files displayed in the viewport that have been tranformed during the current View session.

Installation Instructions
We have replaced the View program file that was installed by the CD-ROM with a new executable file that was either downloaded by you from the 3D Systems website, or was supplied to you on 3.5" DOS formatted diskette. In either case, the name of the executable file is ViewPatch.

Note: We recommend printing this page before downloading and installing the software.

As root:

  • Copy the ViewPatch file to the /bin directory where the Maestro executable files are stored.
  • Rename the old View program to OldView.
  • Rename the ViewPatch file to View.
  • Give the Maestro user read and execute permissions on the new file.
  • Log out and log back in as the Maestro user.

Check with your system administrator if you need help with these instructions.
